Costumes in the hospital should be comfortable, colorful and recognizable. Wearing "scrubs" is the easiest way to go, as we then "blend in" with the hospital staff. Though we are not medical staff, we will be recognized by our make-up, silliness and props. The patients and staff love to see us wear these cartoon-character tops and they are more practical than regular clown costumes...such as the big, full skirts that lady clowns sometimes have. We don't often have "room" to move around freely if our costume interferes with wires, IV's, etc.

I wear scrubs because they are easy to keep clean. Just recently, I've had some stripes added to the sleeves, cut the legs off to make shorts so my socks show and added stripes to the shorts. My stethescope has a fabric cover for more accent and I wear a bright hat and clown shoes.

Believe it or not, I've had clowns think that wearing anything like scrubs or white coats is wrong. Works for me and the nurses and doctors seem to enjoy my "Pretending Physician" uniform. It's good to not be a "Resident" anymore; now I can do what I want!!!!

SINCE i AM A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL IN REAL LIFE, I WEAR SCRUBS EVERYDAY...THIS MAKES IT EASY TO GO INTO "CLOWNGOGNITO" WHEN SOMEONE CALLS AND NEEDS NURSE DUCKY. BELIEVE ME, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH CLOWNS IN SCRUBS AND LABCOATS...NURSES AND DOCTORS ARENT FOCUSING ON YOUR OUTFIT, THEY ARE SEEING WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO HELP THEIR PATIENTS MOMENTARILY FORGET THEIR PAIN AND JOIN IN A MOMENT OF SILLINESS.

I have a couple of pair of foam filled slippers called " Happy Feet," that I really have had fun with. They come in a variety of colors so it's easy to match costume colors. To my dismay, they get more laughs and attention than my newly purchased real clown shoes.

Only drawback is that there is zero foot support, so if you spend a long day in them, your feet will suffer.

I wear a labcoat that is white with red, yellow and blue buttons instead of the white ones that came with it. I have badges pinned on it which say "Giggle Therapist" and "Eat a prune-start a movement". When I want to wear scrubs, I hang two small scrub brushes around my neck which are connected with a piece of yarn.
